The 6 TAGE FREI festival has an eventful history, which is also linked to the awarding of prizes. The festival emerged from the Stuttgart Dance and Theatre Prize. Jury prizes became audience prizes. At some point, there were prizes for everyone and then none at all.

Are prizes unfair or a tribute to outstanding work? Who chooses? Nobody, everyone, just professionals or chance? And what criteria are actually used to judge artistic quality? Former prizewinners, those who have been left out and festival organisers look back on the history of the festival in a round table discussion and ask: Does a festival actually need prizes, and if so, how many?
